Souls & Shadows Series
One of a Thousand Names
A decades-long war is raging with the Coalition, and Maderlav is on the cusp of defeat. Seeding once-prosperous lands with the shadows, the Coalition is determined to rip magic from every last living being in the name of moral superiority.
When the infamous Coalition leader, the Dragone, is rumored dead and venerated as martyr, it seems a Coalition victory is almost certain.
The only problem is Rose, the daughter of the Dragone.
With a longing for the love she lost, a slew of false names—nearly a thousand of them, to be precise—and a soul-taking darkness borne from her time steeped in the shadows of her home, Rose sets out to avenge her father’s death. With gods and shadows and souls and gardens—and betrayal after betrayal—Rose will have to decide whether coming face-to-face with the person who killed her father was really worth the high price of justice.
Two of a Thousand Skies
Two years after the battle on the Denison, the war with the Coalition is almost over. Both sides have been decimated, but with the Dragone dead and the Madri’s hold weakening, Maderlav stands a chance of finally ending the war. All that’s needed is a final strike, and the Coalition will come crumbling down.
When the opportunity presents itself, Rose and Quinn brave perilous seas to infiltrate the Coalition stronghold of Gilinow. Together with Taegen, the fire-wielding elf of ancient and noble lineage, and the inimitable Alder, Rose’s kalina-berry boy, they take on shadow-realms, vestige-gods, and blood edicts to bring the war to an end. But whether they’re successful depends not just on how well they wield their magic, but on how convincingly they can play their parts—and how closely they hold to shadow.
Three of a Thousand Perils
The war is over, but danger is around every corner back in Maderlav. The Bloodbelt holds true to its name as it drives wielders out, and as the violence rises, an all-out war with the elven realms is looming on the horizon.
Amid the delicate politics of mortals, the grudges of gods put Maderlav at risk, too. Fate comes calling on the exiled pantheon when rumor reaches her that a font of corrupted magic has been stolen. Rose holds with precarious touch this dangerous lode of shadow known as the Whelming Darkness, and it longs for destruction. As Quinn and Taegen combine their talents to try and seal it away, giving it up—even with all its malice and hate—threatens to destroy Rose entirely.
A beacon of hope comes in the form of a treaty, one that purports to protect magic wielders and isolate the Bloodbelt. A sanctuary city is raised, and for many, peace, prosperity, and safety are soon within reach.
Not all are so lucky, though, for as Alder wets his hands with the blood of gods, Rose’s heart becomes heavy with a mantle that isn’t hers.
